So I posted a while ago about my struggles with body confidence. I was back on slimming world and it was going well but this was my 4th or 5th attempt since I initially lost all the weight the first time.
A friend had started a weight loss journey and was documenting it on Instagram. She had started with the tags pertaining to weight watchers and points. Then they hashtags changed… #hungerdirectedeating #hde #haveyourcakeandskinnyjeanstoo #antidiet.
I was intrigued to say the least but never really paid much attention at first. Then another friend posted about a book she couldn’t wait to read ‘How to Have Your Cake and Your Skinny Jeans Too’
Now I was really interested… hashtags were springing up everywhere relating to this so I decided to order the book and see what the fuss was about.

I haven’t finished the book yet (Ive been ill and busy with work) but the first few chapters… LIGHTBULBS!!
Did you know that diets have a 99.5% failure rate?!! That they can actually lead to weight GAIN?!! My mind was blown. I’ve been on diets for most of my adult life… I’ve lost weight but inevitably I’ve gained it back and then some.
HDE is about getting back in touch with your body and actually listening to it. It doesn’t want to be fat but it’ll tell you if it needs fed. Naturally thin people don’t think about what they are eating, or how they’ll have to draw a line tomorrow after being naughty… that’s what HDE does for you. It reconnects you with your body, your hunger cues and stops the binge and restriction cycle.
I’m still learning after following diets for so long. Its hard to stop myself beating myself up because I ate chips and chocolate. I’ll get there though and love the thought of having complete freedom with food again!
