I was born in the 80s. There weren’t many channels to choose from but there was some cracking kids TV programmes… both educational and not. Thundercats, Fraggle Rock, Rainbow, Thomas the Tank Engine, He-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Byker Grove, Family Ness… I could be here all day. Now… well now its all gone a bit wrong hasn’t it?
Peppa Pig, Paw Patrol, Bing, PJ Masks…. If you’re a parent I’m sure you’ll be familiar… if you’re a new parent what a treat awaits *sarcasm*. Apart from ‘Hey Duggee’ they are all a bit (or a LOT in Bing and Peppa’s case) annoying. They are either over simplistic or a little bit bratty and the characters forgettable. And they are everywhere… Lots of plastic tat to buy and all in very gender specific ways.
One bonus is that the amount of crap keeps screen time to a minimum (background noise or for a toilet break!). And there are a couple of good ones that are educational as well as lovely to watch – ‘Hey Duggee’ as mentioned before and ‘Puffin Rock’ are my favourites! Also sprinting past the toy aisles keeps you fit too!
